Norwegian euphonium soloist Bente Illevold (b. 1983) has established herself as one of the leading voices on her instrument, known for her distinctive artistry and uncompromising dedication to expanding the euphonium’s role on the concert stage. With more than 25 world premieres to her name, Illevold has become a driving force in contemporary music, shaping a repertoire that reflects both innovation and human depth.

She performs regularly with percussionist Anders Kregnes Hansen in the Illevold/Kregnes Hansen Duo, supported by the Norwegian Arts Council. She also co-leads The Northern Lights Duo with Dr. David Earll (tuba). Beyond these long-term collaborations, Illevold has created acclaimed productions such as She Sounds Like a Girl and Peace Talks—the latter in collaboration with the renowned Swedish saxophone quartet Rollin’ Phones.

Illevold is an international artist for S.E. Shires Company – the first female and European euphonium player to represent the brand. Her discography includes three highly praised solo albums: Klangen fra de dype skoger (2020), which led to a nomination as Instrumentalist of the Year at OPUS KLASSIK; Alene (2021), the world’s first album exclusively for unaccompanied euphonium; and Baut (2024), featuring works by Stig Nordhagen, which received international recognition from 4BarsRest.

Her achievements have been honored with several awards, including Drammen Municipality’s Artist Grant (2023), Forsberg og Aulie’s Musician Award (2021), and the Fegerstens Foundation Artist Grant (2024). She is also the founder and chair of the Norwegian Euphonium and Tuba Association, where she works to build community and visibility for low brass players in Norway.

Through her performances, teaching, and curatorial projects, Bente Illevold continues to challenge conventions, broaden the artistic horizons of the euphonium, and inspire the next generation of brass musicians worldwide.
