Marie Nøkleby Hanssen is a trombonist of the Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces, Norway´s leading professional wind band. She is also studying for an Artist Diploma at the Norwegian Academy of Music.
Marie Nøkleby Hanssen was born in Norway in 1997 and started playing the trombone at the age of four. Her teachers include Astrid Nøkleby, Sverre Riise and Trond Elnes, before she moved to Germany and finished her bachelor studies in 2019 with Jonas Bylund at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover. During her studies she held the position of principal trombone of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, and associate principal trombone of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, for half a year each. Marie has also worked with orchestras such as Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra and the Sinfonietta of the Kristiansund Opera.
In recent years Marie has participated successfully in numerous competitions. She is the winner of International Trombone Association Alto Trombone Competition 2018, Larry Wiehe Tenor Trombone Competition 2018, Prix Ophicleide in the 1er Concours International de Trombone d’Alsace 2017, Gilberto Gagliardi Trombone Competition 2016, Ungdommens Musikkmesterskap 2013 and 2014, and Sparre Olsen Competition 2011.
Furthermore she has appeared as soloist with various orchestras such as Südwestdeutsche Filharmonie Konstanz, the Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces, Bærum Symfoniorkester, Asker Symfoniorkester and Christiania Blåseensemble. She has also performed as a soloist on festivals and venues around the world.
